Fred Strube started Strube Celery & Vegetable Co. on the original South Water Market Street in 1913. Strube was one of the first companies to move to the new produce market at 15th and Racine Avenue in 1925. In 1998, Tim Fleming Sr. of Strube led the effort for the relocation of the Chicago area produce market to the Chicago International Produce MarketŪ in November of 2002. Strube has the oldest PACA license for a wholesale produce company in the Chicago area. History, tradition, experience, and commitment to the fresh industry makes Strube the leader in the sales and distribution of Midwest’s largest selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Strube is a recognized leader of the produce industry nationally and internationally and is an involved member of The Produce Marketing Association and sits on the Board of Directors of United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, and The Leafy Greens Council. Bob Strube Sr. is a founder of The Chicago Food Depository and The Chicago Anti Hunger Federation. Strube’s President, Jan Fleming was appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman to the USDA’s Fruit and Vegetable Advisory Committee in 2002. Bob Strube Sr. received the Packer’s Produce Man of the Year Award in 1976 and Jan. Tim Fleming Sr. shared the same award in 2002. Over the past ninety years Strube has received several produce industry and small business awards for business development, commitment to the produce industry, community service, and business ethics.
